Gaudi Park, or Parc Güell, is like no other park I’d ever seen, just like Sagrada Familia is like no other church I’ve ever seen.  I suppose that’s to be expected from UNESCO World Heritage Sites.  I’m not art expert, but since I had gone inside Sagrada Familia before going to Gaudi Park, I noticed the similarities in Gaudi’s art, particularly the nature aspects.

Also like Sagrada Familia, get your tickets in advance.  I recommend getting your ticket for either Gaudi Park or for Sagrada Familia in the morning and making sure that your ticket for the other place for a late-afternoon entry so that you’ll have enough time to explore at your own pace, make the trek to the second place, and maybe even grab a bite to eat.

By happy accident, I started my visit at the top, so we’re going to make our way down in today’s Photo Friday.  Taking in the nature and the views was another I’m really in Barcelona experience, and it made me forget that this park was built between 1900 and 1914. Gaudi Park was officially opened to the public in 1926, which is the year that Gaudi died because his injuries from a streetcar accident.

Let’s start with my first view of it. ↓  I wonder what exactly that building beside the park is.  I wonder how difficult it would be to jump across like Jackie Chan.

I was surprised about how few people were in the park, but I realized later that it was because of the ticket system. It’s fantastic crowd control.

I’m glad I had a lot of time to kill before being allowed in. It was easy to admire the mosaics on the back of the park bench.

I slowly made my way down so that I could admire the mosaics a little more, but little did I know what was coming.

I did not expect to see these mosaic tiles on the ceiling.

I wonder if everyone knew about the ceiling. Hardly anyone was admiring it. Here are three ceiling shots. ↓

After the ceiling, I continued my way down and of course, came across the famous multi-coloured salamander.  It’s known as el drac (the dragon). ↓

I actually like this one better than el drac. How about you?
